What is CDHCI?

Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI) is an Alberta Health Services home-care delivery option for eligible clients who are willing and able to take an active role in directing their care.

An AHS Case Manager assesses your needs and authorizes services and hours. If CDHCI is suitable, you can choose an agency that meets program requirements. The agency provides authorized services and bills Alberta Blue Cross directly.

Who it may help

For people who want a more active voice in home care.

CDHCI may be worth discussing with an AHS Case Manager if you or someone supporting you:

01

Needs support at home

Has care needs that can be safely met in a community setting and may benefit from authorized personal care, homemaking, or respite.

02

Values provider choice

Would like to select an eligible home-care agency and have more say in how approved services are delivered.

03

Can help direct care

Is willing and able—or has someone who is—to help coordinate, monitor, and communicate about the care arrangement.

Eligibility is individual. Only AHS can assess your needs and decide whether CDHCI is appropriate for your situation.

A clearer path forward

How the process works

1

Connect with AHS

Call 811 or your local Home & Community Care office, or speak with your existing AHS Case Manager.

2

Complete an assessment

An AHS Case Manager reviews your needs, goals, home situation, and available supports.

3

Discuss care options

If CDHCI may fit, your Case Manager explains responsibilities and confirms the services and hours AHS authorizes.

4

Choose an eligible agency

You consider eligible providers and select the agency that best fits your approved plan and preferences.

5

Begin and review care

Authorized services begin. Keep your Case Manager informed if needs or circumstances change.

Common questions

Good questions deserve straightforward answers.

For decisions about eligibility or your care plan, your AHS Case Manager is the right source.

Is CDHCI the same as private home care?

No. CDHCI is an AHS home-care delivery option for eligible clients. Services and hours are based on an AHS assessment and care plan. You may still choose to purchase separate private services, but those are outside CDHCI.

Do I need Alberta Blue Cross coverage?

The AHS CDHCI brochure says clients do not need their own Alberta Blue Cross plan. Under CDHCI, the selected agency submits claims to Alberta Blue Cross as the program administrator.

What services can be included?

Depending on the AHS assessment, authorized services may include personal care, health-related homemaking, and publicly funded respite. The exact services and hours are individual and must be approved by AHS.

Can Rocky Pine decide if I qualify?

No. Rocky Pine can explain general information and discuss our services, but only AHS can assess your needs and determine whether CDHCI is suitable.
